Here the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, one of the great Vegas de Primera, can be reached through a gate on the town's main square inscribed "Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960." "Hoyo" literally means "hole" and in this case describes the low-lying position of the plantation on the fertile banks of San Juan y Martinez river.  Jose Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, first used the name of his vega on a brand of Habanos in 1865. The flavour of Hoyo de Monterrey's blend makes it an attractive choice for those who seek a delicate yet aromatic Habano that is lighter to the taste but with great elegance and complexity. Hoyo de Monterrey was the first brand to introduce a Petit Robusto in 2005, the 50 ring gauge size with a shorter length to suit those who like thicker formats, but do not always have the time to enjoy them.

Grand Epicure EL 2013

$370.00
DESCRIPTION
The Grand Epicure is part of the Edición Limitada series of cigars and was released by Hoyo de Monterrey in 2013. This cigar has a non-standard Montesco vitola, measuring 5⅛” with a 55 ring gauge. The Edición Limitada series are typically aged for two years and produce dark, intense cigars. The Grand Epicure boasts a Colorado Maduro wrapper that smells of earth, leather, and cocoa.

After sparking the Hoyo de Monterrey Grand Epicure el 2013, you’ll be met with a strong flavor of cedar and leather, with notes of dark chocolate and bitter coffee rounded out by the honeyed sweetness of dried fruit. The loose draw allows the bitter and sweet to perfectly combine, evening each other out. This cigar produces copious amounts of smoke that provide a decadent creamy mouthfeel to complement the luxurious tobacco.

Hermosos N4 Anejados

$350.00
New and only temporarily in our range are the Hoyo de Monterrey Hermosos No.4 Añejados. These cigars were rolled in 2007 and 2008, and thus are maturation stored for at least seven years. That is why the year is on the bottom of the box, supplemented with “Revisado”. This stamp confirms that all cigars are once again thoroughly inspected one by one before they are sold. Unique about these cigars is, however, not only the fact that they are maturation stored. Also the format makes them something special, because it is not part of the standard range of the brand. The Hoyo de Monterrey Hermosos No.4 come out as a one off and in a very limited quantity. A second band and a sticker on the lid of the box designate them as “Habanos Añejados”. The boxes with 25 of these wonderful cigars are decorated with colourful lithographies which is typical for the brand.
